Dr Ronan O'Donnabhain PGDipUS FRACP

After graduating with honours from the National University of Ireland, Dr Ronan O’Donnabhain trained in clinical cardiology in tertiary centres in Ireland before moving to Melbourne in 2011 to pursue a career as a general physician with an interest in heart failure. He holds several qualifications in echocardiography from the University of Melbourne and has presented research in the areas of hypertensive heart disease and heart failure at national and international meetings. Areas of ongoing research interest include heart failure in elderly, syncope and orthostatic hypotension.

 

Dr O’Donnabhain is the director of the perioperative medicine service at the Austin Hospital and the perioperative medicine lead in the Internal Medicine Clinical Institue at Epworth Richmond.

Inpatient services

Dr O'Donnabhain provides inpatient consultations at Epworth Richmond, Epworth Freemasons, and Cabrini Medical Centre. Referring doctors can contact him through the Epworth switchboard on (03) 9426 6666.

Outpatient services

Dr O'Donnabhain sees outpatients at Suite 9.3, Danks Wing, Epworth Richmond. The rooms can be found on the ninth floor, using the lifts nearest the hospital's main reception area. The rooms are wheelchair accessible. Paid car parking is available in the hospital carpark and the surrounding streets. Public transport access is via the route 48 or 75 trams (stop 15).

 

Pathology, radiology, and pharmacy services are available on-site.

 

Dr O'Donnabhain also provides telehealth services using doxy.me. This secure service can be accessed from any web browser on your computer, tablet or smartphone. There is no need to install additional apps or software. The virtual waiting room can be accessed at doxy.me/perspectivemedicine.

Written communication allows us to ensure that your questions are addressed accurately by the correct member of our team and recorded for quality and audit purposes. All emails sent to this address are stored securely and outgoing emails with sensitive information are encrypted to protect patient privacy, in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. Outgoing emails will contain a link to our secure server and can be accessed using these steps. Once you have accessed the message, you can reply directly and/or download attachments if required.

Patients who have urgent clinical issues or emergencies should contact standard urgent-care services, including Nurse-on-Call, your general practitioner, local emergency department, or the ambulance service.

 

Fees

Dr O'Donnabhain does not charge an out-of-pocket "gap" for inpatient consultations, which will be billed directly to your insurer. Uninsured patients will be charged the equivalent of the AHSA benefit.

 

All appointments (face-to-face and telehealth) attract a private fee, which is payable on the day of appointment via credit or debit card:

 

Standard initial consultation $350

Complex initial consultation (60min) $500

Standard review consultation $175

Complex review consultation (30 min) $250

 

Medicare rebates apply to all services with a valid referral.  Medicare claims will be submitted by administrative staff and paid into the bank account you have provided to Medicare. If you are seeking reimbursement for fees from Workcover or TAC, you will be provided with an invoice for use in making your claim.
